This demonstration shows three ways to write with Prates, each using the same knowledge. Speak: replying to Ingrid Berg in Mail, someone holds the right Option key and says “uh hi Ingrid thanks for sending this over section three is strong but I think the pricing table needs another pass can we go through it Thursday at ten”. Prates pastes: “Hi Ingrid, thanks for sending this over. Section 3 is strong, but I think the pricing table needs another pass. Let’s aim for Thursday at 10 to go through it. Best,”. Ask: in an empty Teams reply to Ingrid, who asks where the Haugland Q3 numbers landed, they tap right Option three times and Prates drafts the whole reply. Type: in a Word status update, they type “Decision:” and Prates suggests the rest, ending with a list of open questions. Each draft draws on notes Prates learned in other apps, such as how they write to Ingrid, their view on churn figures, and how they structure status updates.
It gets to know how you write and what you think.
Every message you finish teaches Prates a little more about the people you write to, the work you are doing, the views you hold, and the way you like to put things. Because it works across all your apps rather than inside one, a view you gave in an email can shape the reply it drafts for you in Teams the next morning.
What it learns stays on your Mac as short notes rather than copies of your messages, and you can read or remove any of them.

Do I need an account?
Yes, but there is no password. You sign in with your email address and a six-digit code, and one account works on up to three Macs. The website never keeps your address.
What does Prates know about me?
Short notes about the people you write to, your projects and views, and how you like to write. It keeps the notes, not your messages. They stay on your Mac, and you can read or remove every one.
Does any audio leave my Mac?
No. Speech recognition runs on your Mac. If you choose a cloud model or an AI tool, only text goes to it, and only after you approve that exact destination.
Do I need an AI subscription?
No. Dictation works on its own, and rewriting, drafts, and suggestions can use a free model running on your Mac. You can also use a cloud account or an AI tool you already have.
Can I use it with my company’s approved models?
Yes. Prates works with your organisation’s Azure OpenAI deployment, an internal gateway that speaks the OpenAI format, or an AI tool signed in with your work account, so your text goes only where your company allows. Whether a model is approved is for your organisation to decide.
Which apps does it work in?
Dictation works anywhere you can paste text. Drafts and suggestions work in apps that show their text to macOS, which includes many mail, chat, office, and browser apps. When an app shows no text at all, Prates says so rather than guessing.
Which languages can I use?
Whisper understands 99 languages, and where a speech model has been trained for a language, such as NB-Whisper for Norwegian, you can choose it instead. Tap right ⌥ twice to switch between the languages you use.
What happens if I stop subscribing?
Dictation, file transcription, rewriting, learning, and suggestions pause. Your History, Knowledge, and settings stay on your Mac and can still be exported, and everything carries on if you subscribe again.
